Internship – Diamond Segment Testing Development (Materials Tribology)

About the role

Join Hilti’s Materials Tribology team to support research on diamond segments used in cutting applications. The 6–12 month internship (starting Jan 2027) combines hands‑on laboratory testing, microstructural characterization and data analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, execute and document laboratory wear tests on diamond segments using defined rigs and procedures.
• Perform post‑test characterisation (optical microscopy, digital image analysis, SEM) and conduct qualitative and quantitative wear analysis.
• Analyse experimental data with Excel, MATLAB or similar tools and visualise results for R&D meetings.
• Conduct literature reviews on diamond materials and tribological behaviour to support data interpretation.

Required profile

• Student in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Strong problem‑solving attitude, proactive and self‑reliant.
• Good command of English.
• Interest in hands‑on laboratory work and data interpretation.

Required skills

• Optical microscopy and digital image analysis.
• Scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
• Data analysis using Excel or MATLAB.
• Basic knowledge of tribology (valued).
